Schnauzer training ideas

by mumshere @ 2007-12-05 - 20:53:57

Help needed for training my 2 little boys, Benji is 12 months old very lovable but also very stubborn, Jack is six months old, hes a cute little guy but takes more notice of his idol Benji than me, I am at my wits end they live in their own world.
The toilet side is finally mastered but recall is a joke, any ideas are most welcome :DD

You have to make yourself interesting. Use different tone of voice or make an unusual sound to get the dog's attention. with the younger puppy start by calling him to you when he's actually on a lead, so that you can "insist" that he comes by pulling him toward you if necessary. Feeding time is useful for practicing recall, prepare the food whilst the dogs are in another room, then open the door, and call them to come to you. they are rewarded with their meal, put the food down for them after a bit of praise for coming to you. The best tip that I can give tho' is "Find a local training class to attend, it is hard work, but you will reap the rewards for your effort" The pup in the picture looks gorgeous, but I bet he is a bundle of mischief.

they both are, i have taken your advice we start training next week ;)

I find its harder to do with more than one dog, time with each one on its own so no distractions is what we do, hard work innit!

I am afraid I can't give you any advice as I have no experience of dogs. Just want to wish you good luck! :)
